Permeable concrete in Tasmania: steep blocks, steady rain
Most Tasmanian sites we quote have fall. Often a lot of it. A driveway sealed flat across a Hobart hillside collects every drop that lands on it and sends the whole lot downhill in a sheet, and that water has to land somewhere: the garage, the neighbour's fence line, or straight out onto the road.
That's the most common job we're asked about in Tasmania, and the rain here doesn't stay away long enough to let anyone ignore it. Permcon keeps the water where it lands rather than shifting it further down the block.
Rain passes through the slab at 8,000 to 10,000 mm/hr into a bed of clean screenings underneath. The screenings store the water and let it soak into the ground, or release it through an under-drain at a controlled rate. On a sloping block we step the base to follow the fall and detail the downhill edge so stored water can't migrate through the pavement to the low corner.
The surface stays clear of standing water. That matters here more than most places: a puddle on a path grows moss within weeks, and a mossy path in a Tasmanian winter is a fall waiting to happen.
Cold weather and the voids
It's a fair thing to ask.

The mix uses 10 mm aggregate over a standard 125 mm slab, poured as one continuous surface with no joints to lift or spread. Finishes come in plain grey, charcoal, soapstone and sandstone.
