Wa-Karroong was completed as an Indigenous housing partnership for Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative in Geelong.
A home built by many hands
Wa-Karroong started as a conversation. It finished as a home for Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative in Geelong, raised through collaboration, cultural guidance, generosity and shared purpose rather than by any one business doing its job alone. Our share of it was permeable concrete, laid so that rain lands on it and seeps through to the ground below instead of running across the site, on ground that now serves the co-operative and the community around it.
What it means to us
Every group on that list had a hand in something bigger than a house, and that's the reminder we carry off site with us. Wa-Karroong belongs to its community now, the way it should. We poured one part of it, and we're glad we did.
