APC Completes Landmark Project at Lillydale Airport

Permeable concrete pavement engineered for aviation infrastructure

APC has completed a major permeable concrete pavement project at Lillydale Airport, delivering a surface built for the specific demands of aviation infrastructure. The finished pavement reflects APC's experience in creating durable, high-performance surfaces for environments where safety and efficiency can't be compromised.

Aviation sites bring a different set of pressures than a typical driveway or car park. Surfaces need to cope with heavy, repeated loads, changeable weather, and the kind of scrutiny that comes with critical infrastructure. Getting the pavement right isn't just about looks, it's about how the surface performs day after day.

For this project, APC applied its permeable concrete pavement system to suit the operational requirements at Lillydale Airport. The approach draws on the same principles used across our broader work: a porous structure that lets water pass through rather than pool on the surface, paired with the strength needed to carry sustained traffic.

That combination matters most in places where standing water is a genuine hazard, not just an inconvenience. A pavement that drains well reduces the risk of slick patches and surface damage over time, which is exactly the kind of outcome an aviation client needs from their ground infrastructure.

Why airports and similar sites choose permeable concrete

Permeable concrete pavement suits a wider range of high-demand sites than people often expect. Beyond aviation, the same properties are useful anywhere surface water management and long-term durability both matter:

  • Better drainage performance, reducing pooling and runoff across large paved areas
  • A durable finish designed to handle sustained heavy traffic
  • Lower long-term maintenance compared with surfaces prone to water damage
  • A finish suited to critical infrastructure where reliability is non-negotiable

The Lillydale Airport project is a good example of what's possible when a permeable concrete pavement is specified and installed with the site's actual operating conditions in mind, rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all surface.
