Sport Facilities Permeable

Sport Facilities Permeable

Permeable Concrete Sports Facilities That Handle Real-World Use

Permeable concrete sports facilities need to do more than look good on handover day. They have to drain fast after rain, hold up under crowds, and keep performing for years without cracking or pooling. That's exactly the brief we worked to on this project, partnering closely with the developers and owners from design through to completion to deliver a result that met their standard for a major facility.

Permcon was chosen as the surface solution for two very different zones on the same site. In the spectator seating areas, it needed to manage foot traffic and runoff without becoming slippery or waterlogged between events. As the base for the padel courts, it had to provide a stable, consistent surface that could take the repeated impact and quick direction changes that come with the sport. Both applications called for the same underlying material, just tuned to different jobs, and both delivered.

Why Clubs and Developers Choose Permeable Concrete for Sporting Venues

Sporting facilities cop a lot of punishment: heavy foot traffic, seasonal downpours, and long gaps between maintenance windows. Permeable concrete sports facilities solve several of these problems at once, which is why we're seeing more developers specify it for upgrades rather than standard concrete or asphalt.

  • Water drains straight through the surface, cutting down on puddling around seating and courts
  • Reduces strain on stormwater drainage systems during heavy rain
  • Strong enough to handle spectator loads and court-level impact
  • Lower long-term maintenance compared to traditional sealed surfaces
  • Supports sustainability goals for new builds and council-approved upgrades

The combination of strength and drainage is why permeable concrete keeps showing up on projects where both athletes and spectators are using the same site, often on the same day.

Get Your Next Sporting Facility Upgrade Right

APC can complete your next sporting facility upgrade with the same approach we brought to this project: durable, strong surfaces that are built with sustainability in mind. Whether you're planning a new court, upgrading spectator areas, or specifying surfaces across a full redevelopment, we work directly with your design and construction team to get the detail right the first time.
