The timber boards and steel pegs are still in: this rural permeable concrete driveway is barely finished

Steel pegs still line the right-hand side. Timber edge boards run the length of the slab. Beyond them the ground is bare soil, waiting on planting, proof of how recent the pour is rather than any fault in the work.

What's already doing its job: a long, wide driveway in Ultracon, plain grey, running the long way up past open paddock to a red-brick house with a black roller door. It carries on under a tall, open steel carport, built as a rural permeable concrete driveway wide the whole way, made to take years of daily vehicle and foot traffic without much upkeep, sitting on the block like it's always been there instead of dropped onto it afterwards.

On site:

• A horse float parked on the grass under a big gum.
• A covered trailer beside it, clear of the new slab.
• Bush along the boundary, the reason plain grey was chosen over a brighter finish.

A driveway this size, sealed, would send a lot of water at the carport in any decent storm. Instead the rain passes through the surface into the base below, so it doesn't pool at the door and doesn't cut into the edges where the driveway crosses the block.
